Portraits of Philosophers
In 1978 I was asked by the BBC to photograph a number
of eminent philosophers for a book entitled "Men of Ideas:
Some Creators of Contemporary Philosophy". I should probably
have taken the opportunity to ask each for his personal idea of
the meaning of life, but I'm afraid I never did.
Other than the various professors shown here, this
section of my files contains portraits of Bryan Magee, Ronald Dworkin
and Ernest Gellner. Knowing I have pictures of philosophers, picture
researchers do sometimes ask me for a photograph of Descartes or
Socrates, but I'm afraid I have only the people named here.
